CinemAfrica Film Festival is here!
This year’s festival is a tribute to the African continent’s self-love, shaped by a rich and complex history that continues to make its mark on our present. The theme this year is empathy: how we meet, care for each other, and build communities through culture and storytelling. In a time when people are too often reduced to numbers and statistics, we want to highlight the power of personal stories.
Through the festival’s film program, we get to experience these individual voices—moments that move us, reflect our own experiences, and open doors to new perspectives.
Opening Night – October 2 at Maxim:
The 27th edition of CinemAfrica kicks off with a grand evening filled with film, music, and conversation. We begin with Joy and Sorrow of Time, a dance film that celebrates the significance of dance within Black culture, followed by the acclaimed Gambian-British film The Backway, which portrays migration, family structures, colonization, and human destinies. After the screening, there will be an exclusive discussion with the film’s director Cherno Jagne and migration researcher Aida Jobarteh.
Festival October 2–5:
Over four days, cinemas will be filled with award-winning films and many Swedish premieres. Many screenings will be followed by panel discussions with filmmakers, researchers, and industry experts—conversations that open up new perspectives.
Festival Highlights:
Among this year’s most anticipated films are the powerful Fanon and Danny Kouyaté’s celebrated masterpiece Katanga: La danse des scorpions, which was honored with the Golden Stallion of Yennenga at Fespaco.
An Evening of Afro-Swedish Short Film:
The festival also offers an evening dedicated to Afro-Swedish short films—an opportunity to discover new voices, stories, and perspectives from the growing Afro-Swedish film scene. Don’t miss this networking event!
Welcome to be part of the Nordic region’s largest meeting place for African film and culture!
