About Us
uBUNTu bASE
Ubuntu Base is a non-profit organisation grounded in the philosophy of Ubuntu,
“I am because we are.”
We serve as a platform dedicated to celebrating and promoting African cultures in Sweden, while fostering connection, cultural exchange, and a sense of belonging.
We conceptualise Ubuntu Base as a tree. Its roots represent our core values of community, care, and cultural pride. The trunk forms a stable foundation that holds and supports African diasporic experiences. From this foundation, branches develop as distinct initiatives that contribute to cultural expression, identity, and collective growth.
Our official branches currently include Y3nko Project, which focuses on African dance as a means of artistic expression, storytelling, and community engagement, and Djaboot-yi, meaning “family,” which facilitates intergenerational gatherings centred on togetherness, care, and shared experience. As Ubuntu Base continues to grow, we actively welcome the development of additional branches that align with our vision and values.
Through workshops, events, and collaborations, we create spaces where African cultures are both centred and meaningfully represented. We are committed to ensuring representation by fostering environments where individuals can see themselves reflected in cultural practices, narratives, and community life.
By bringing people together through music, dance, food, and creative expression, Ubuntu Base strengthens community bonds, supports personal development, and contributes to a more inclusive and dynamic cultural landscape.
