In 2026, it will be twenty years since Ali Farka Touré passed away. To honour his musical legacy, the Samba Touré Trio is touring with a special programme drawn from Ali Farka Touré’s songbook.

Featuring both beloved classics and hidden gems.

The two guitarists share a bond that goes far deeper than their surname.

Samba’s mother sang with Ali Farka early in his career, and Samba himself was discovered at a young age while performing with the Farafina Lolo Band in Mali. Ali Farka handed him a guitar and encouraged him to explore the roots of traditional Malian music.

Since their first meeting, the master and protégé toured the world together, while Samba went on to build his own legacy as one of the leading artists on Mali’s rich blues scene. His hypnotic blend of Delta blues, traditional Songhai themes and Western influences continues to develop Ali Farka Touré’s legacy — where Bamako meets Mississippi.

When Toumani Diabaté paid tribute to Ali Farka Touré around fifteen years ago, Samba was the natural choice on guitar. Now, he takes his own tribute on the road.

As Samba himself puts it:

“For that very special tour, we won’t become a tribute band but a band who pays tribute!”
