When Dre and Des meet at sixteen, everything feels possible. The world is wide open, emotions are overwhelming, and they share dreams, closeness, and their first great love.

Many years later, they meet again. They are now thirty-two. Dre stayed. Des left. Everything has changed—and yet, the bond between them remains.

Through an interplay of past and present, memory and reality, their shared story unfolds. What happens when the past collides with the present? Does their love belong to then—or is it still alive now?

Shifters is a drama many of us can recognize ourselves in. A story about how people and experiences shape us for life, and the eternal question: what if?

🎭 About the play

Written by the acclaimed Benedict Lombe, Shifters was a major success at The Bush Theatre in London in 2023. Lombe—the third Black woman to have a play staged in the West End—is celebrated for bringing perspectives and lived experiences rarely seen on major stages.

Now, Shifters has its Swedish premiere, starring Angelika Prick and John Njie as Des and Dre.
